Tony Rockoff, author of “Classical Pilates according to Joseph Pilates”, is a recognized expert in functional movement, holistic training, and personal development. His mission is to preserve and authentically pass on the classical teachings of Joseph Pilates in their original intensity. “Pilates was never meant to be a gentle method – it’s honest, intense training. For women and men.” From a young age, Tony searched for the perfect training method – and for him, that could only mean a natural, holistic movement system. After completing training as a certified sports and fitness professional and earning a diploma in fitness instruction, he discovered his true calling in 2000: the classical Pilates method Contrology, developed by Joseph Pilates. Tony completed renowned teacher trainings, studied historical source material, and taught at various studios. In close collaboration with German Pilates icon Juliana Afram, he helped further develop her Pilates programs and worked in her studio as an instructor. A pivotal moment in Tony’s career came in 2010, when he traveled to New York to train under Pilates master Bob Liekens – one of the few direct students of Romana Kryzanowska, the close companion of Joseph Pilates. Bob became more than just a teacher to Tony – he was a mentor and close friend. This deep personal connection profoundly shaped Tony’s understanding of the Pilates method. Today, Tony sees it as his responsibility and personal mission to carry on the valuable knowledge entrusted to him by Bob Liekens – with respect, dedication, and authenticity. Since then, Tony Rockoff has been successfully training new generations of Pilates instructors and is an active member of the international network The Pilates Standard.
